2022 was the inaugural year for the HDR Studio Crit program, co-founded by Daniel Press and Kristy Gordon. 2022 saw 17 presenters across UNSW Art & Design, Sydney College of the Arts, and National Art School. The friendship and collaboration that grew from this program would find application in the curatorial practice of Press, seeing many projects – like MATERIALITY (2023), TEXTA (2023), MATTER (2024), Movement Study (2024), and MASS (2024) – develop from these initial conversations. The presenters included Alannah Dair (SCA), Gus McGrath (UNSW), Daniel Press (UNSW), Aulia Yeru (UNSW), Kristone Capistrano (UNSW alumni), Quinn Chen (NAS), Kristy Gordon (UNSW), Catherine Anselmi (NAS), Wendy Miller (NAS), Belinda Yee (NAS), Stephanie Houghton (NAS), Joyce Lubotzky (NAS), Justine Roche (NAS), Mei Zhao (NAS), Liz Cotter (NAS), Penny Coss (UNSW), and Henry Xiang (NAS).

In November 2022, Press received the Research Candidate Award for the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. Awarded “for his work developing and implementing monthly cross-institutional critique sessions for HDR creative practitioners”.
